Makes 1 latte
What if you could eat or drink one food that can reduce high blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and increase your exercise performance? Beets are that one food that can do just that! We can enjoy this nutritious food in so many ways; pickled, roasted, and even as a latte. Since beets are naturally sweet, there isn’t much to add to the latte recipe except a little maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon.
There are several compounds in beets that are highly bioavailable and responsible for beets health-promoting effects, like betalain and nitrate to name a few. The body converts nitrate to nitric oxide which is responsible for dilating the blood vessels, improving blood flow, and reducing blood pressure. Your body functions much better when there is good blood flow so this is something you want to keep constant. Beetroot has been explored in many studies as a nutritional approach for supporting endothelial function which is important for vascular health. Studies have shown that a decrease in nitric oxide, which happens naturally as we age, plays a role in endothelial dysfunction which may lead to diseases like heart disease and cognitive decline. Studies showed a positive effect on restoring and preserving endothelial function with the supplementation of beetroot! The compound betalain has also been observed in studies to have powerful antioxidant effects to counter inflammation and have possible tumor suppression activity.
The nitrates and betalain in beets help improve mitochondrial efficiency which is our source of energy production in our cells. Increase mitochondrial efficiency and improved blood flow leads to an increase in oxygen uptake which in turn reduces exercise-induced exhaustion time and improving overall sports performance. So if you are active on our platform following along with our intense workouts, you will want to start drinking this latte for better exercise performance. You are only one beetroot latte away from good health!
